EMDR Therapy: Helping You Heal From the Inside Out
What if relief from trauma didn’t have to take years? You deserve to feel like yourself again—sooner than you think. When life leaves emotional scars—whether from trauma, grief, loss, or painful experiences—talking about it isn’t always enough. That’s where EMDR therapy comes in.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, research-backed approach that helps you process and release the emotional pain that’s been holding you back. It’s not about forgetting the past—it’s about freeing yourself from its grip.
How EMDR Can Help:
Reduce the emotional intensity of painful memories
Heal from trauma, loss, and difficult life events
Break patterns of anxiety, fear, or feeling "stuck"
Shift negative self-beliefs into more compassionate, empowering ones
Create space for peace, clarity, and emotional freedom
What to Expect:
EMDR is a structured process that involves recalling a distressing memory while engaging in gentle bilateral stimulation (like guided eye movements or tapping). This helps your brain reprocess the memory so it no longer feels overwhelming or defining.
You stay in control, and your therapist is right there with you—creating a safe, supportive space for your healing.
You Don’t Have to Carry It Alone
Whether you’re dealing with a recent loss, childhood trauma, or anything in between, EMDR offers a path forward. It's a way to reconnect with yourself, move through the pain, and come out stronger on the other side.
A safe space to gently process what’s been holding you back and step into what’s possible.
Specialities within My EMDR approach
EMDR with Individuals (Children and Adults)
Whether you're navigating trauma, grief, anxiety, or painful life experiences, EMDR offers a powerful way to heal without having to relive everything in detail. I work with individuals of all ages, including children, using developmentally appropriate tools and a supportive, paced approach. Together, we’ll help your brain process what’s been unresolved so you can feel more grounded, calm, and connected to yourself.
Conjoint EMDR with Couples
Trauma doesn’t just affect individuals—it impacts relationships. Conjoint EMDR brings both partners into the healing process. Whether you're recovering from betrayal, navigating conflict, or dealing with past wounds that show up in your relationship, this approach allows couples to witness and support each other’s healing in real-time. It fosters empathy, trust, and a deeper emotional bond.
EMDR with First Responders and Military
First responders and military personnel face unique stressors and often carry the weight of critical incidents, loss, and long-term exposure to trauma. My EMDR work with first responders/military is confidential, culturally aware, and focused on helping you process what you’ve experienced- without needing to talk through every detail. Whether it's one call that stuck with you or the cumulative stress of the job, EMDR can help you reclaim your sense of balance and well-being.
You’re in Control Every Step of the Way
You never have to face anything alone or go deeper than what you’re ready for. EMDR is a collaborative process—and you're always in the driver's seat.
How EMDR Therapy Works
-
I begin by getting to know you—your story, your goals, and what’s bringing you to therapy. You don’t have to go into deep detail right away. We'll work together to build trust and create a sense of safety first.
-
Before we begin EMDR, you'll learn simple tools to help you stay grounded and calm during and between sessions. These might include breathing techniques, imagery, or other calming strategies that work for you.
-
When you're ready, we’ll identify specific memories or experiences that feel distressing or “stuck.” These could be related to trauma, loss, or other painful moments. We also explore the beliefs and emotions tied to those memories (like “I’m not safe” or “It was my fault”).
-
This is the heart of EMDR. While you focus gently on a memory, I’ll guide you through bilateral stimulation—usually side-to-side eye movements, tapping, or sound tones. This helps your brain reprocess the memory so that it feels less emotionally intense.
Think of it as your brain’s natural healing process finally being allowed to finish what it started.
-
As we go through the reprocessing, your brain begins to shift how it holds the memory. It may start to feel more distant, less painful, or more neutral. You may even notice new insights or perspectives emerging.
-
Once the emotional charge around the memory has decreased, we work on strengthening a new, more supportive belief—like “I am safe now” or “I did the best I could.” This helps you feel more empowered and grounded moving forward.
-
Healing is a process, and EMDR happens at your pace. After reprocessing, we’ll check in, talk about how you’re feeling, and continue supporting your growth and recovery.
